ME & TAPLOOK
Looking back at those early days, I started out running a salon studio on my own. Thanks to my media and communication skills, many clients found their way to TapLook and my schedule was often fully booked. However, since I was working alone in a studio setup, I could only offer limited services at relatively low prices. More importantly, I realized I couldn’t establish a strong brand identity TapLook’s value was getting lost among the many other nail service brands in Edmonton.
I made the decision to leave that old model behind and focus on creating a new kind of value one that could scale quickly and reach more customers in more cities. I wanted to support both the clients and the talented nail technicians who partnered with me across cities. Some of them had just arrived in Canada, with only basic nail skills learned back in Vietnam, but they were still able to contribute and deliver value to our clients.
That’s how TapLook transitioned into a brand specializing in mobile nail services for seniors. Seniors rarely request services like shellac, gel, dip, or acrylic due to health reasons. Instead, they usually need only the basics services that are simple, but carry deep meaning and value. These services generate income while delivering care and comfort to our clients.
What defines TapLook’s unique identity?
Today, TapLook has team members and partners in various cities across Canada and the U.S. In Edmonton, I started by personally serving clients myself. After each appointment, I would reflect on their feedback to continuously improve our service. My goal was always to hear from the heart of our clients, words like: “So good!”
Over time, through experience with many senior clients, I found my own identity and that has become the identity of TapLook.
“Recharging energy, restoring natural beauty” that’s what I aim to do every day, and strive to do even better. The word Tap in TapLook symbolizes a gentle “touch” touching the hands, feet, or skin of a client. That first touch is so important, as it conveys our energy. My hands must be soft and warm from the start. I remember those cold winter days when arriving at a client’s home, my hands were freezing. I’d rinse them in warm water and massage them to warm up before I began. That warmth and intention perhaps something I’ve cultivated through meditation makes all the difference.
Some seniors have nails that are thick, brittle, discolored, grooved, or misshapen. I actually love working with these cases reshaping, gently buffing, and doing my best to bring the nails back to their natural and beautiful state. Many clients have said things like: “I only want Eric to take care of my mother’s nails. She feels so happy when he comes!” That makes me proud. But now, I’ve stepped back from doing services directly. Each person at TapLook now plays a different role, helping us grow and reach more people.
What social value does TapLook bring?
We often receive bookings from hospitals from families whose loved ones may only have a few days left. Their children or grandchildren want to bring one last moment of dignity and beauty to their parents. Whenever we get calls like these, we prioritize them immediately. In those moments, I do my best absolutely my best. And when I see the client smile and say “Thank you,” my heart is full. On the drive home, I feel like I’ve done something meaningful for the world.
That’s why, when I train or hire new team members, I tell them: this work is not just about income or service value, it’s about doing something beautiful for life itself. This is what makes TapLook a brand with deep and lasting meaning.
“Recharging energy, restoring natural beauty” this is our signature at TapLook. It is unique. It cannot be copied. I’m working hard to refine the method and teach every TapLook team member how to embody it in their own way. My dream is to bring this meaningful service to many cities and countries. It’s a way to test and validate what I believe in and what I’m passionate about.
